UK and EU Trade Marks

Trade marks are applied for and registered for the goods and services you wish to protect - for a full list of the various classes please see the right hand box on this page.

We would recommend ordering the comprehensive search service in order to determine whether your trade mark is available to be successfully applied for. This will allow us to see any similar marks which may be registered or applied for and which may cause a problem with any application. In the event that you choose not to go ahead with an application, you will only pay for the cost of the search.

The stages to registration are as follows:-

1. Search - this determines the availability of your mark.

2. Application - we apply for your mark in the classes of goods or services that you require protection for.

3. Registry check - the appropriate trade mark Registry looks at the application to determine whether they are happy with the application. In the event that a Registry objects to an application we will be happy to make representations on your behalf but please be aware that this will incur further fees - we will establish these with you before proceeding.

4. Opposition - this is a period of up to 3 months where a 3rd party has the right to oppose a trade mark application if they see fit. In the event that a this party objects to an application we will be happy to make representations on your behalf but please be aware that this will incur further fees - we will establish these with you before proceeding.

5. Registration - if no opposition is received or an opposition is successfully defeated, then your mark will become register and a certifdicate issued.
